On your sport...

How long have you played? What inspired you to play?

I’ve been playing football since I was 8 years old and I can’t imagine not playing, it’s what keeps me grounded in life. My older brother, dad, and grandfather all had football in their life so they were my main inspirations.

Where is your favorite place to play?

My favorite place I ever played at was probably the Rubber Bowl, The University of Akron’s old stadium. I won a CYO championship there in 8th grade and my team beat our high school rival there as well.

What is your favorite number? Why?

I have a couple but I would probably pick 3. I used to love A.I. (Allen Iverson) and so I always wanted to be number 3 and still like it.

Who is the best player you’ve played WITH and AGAINST?

The best player I have ever played with in basketball was Marcus Johnson who plays for University of Dayton and in football was our former running back Joique Bell who recently competed in the Senior Bowl and is entering the draft. The best player I ever played against in basketball was a player from Euclid High School in 2008, but I don’t remember his name unfortunately. In football I would say Dan McCarthy formerly of Youngstown Cardinal Mooney and now Notre Dame.

Do you have a pre-game ritual? If so, what is it?

Just listen to music and relax my mind and visualize success.

If you didn’t play your sport, what sport would you play?

Basketball

What is the worst experienced you’ve had? What did you learn from it?

Losing my grandma last year. It just reminded me to never take anyone for granted in life and love those who are close to you to the fullest while you can.

Have you ever had an injury while performing your sport?

When I was a sophomore in high school I was diving for a first down and I was flipped on my head and I had a pretty serious neck sprain.

What do you consider as your greatest accomplishment?

I feel that I have achieved my greatest accomplishment yet and that’s how I approach everyday when I work to get better.

What is your most memorable moment? Why?

My most memorable moment was getting on the field for the first time in my life with my brother (#98) my freshman season at Wayne State. It was kind of a surreal moment.

How has your sport helped you become who you are today?

I think football has helped me to be driven and disciplined in everything I do. All sports I have played have helped me develop a competitiveness that pushes me to be the best.

How has your family reacted to all of your sporting success?

My family is my support system and they help me keep in mind that I can always improve and help other improve as well.

Behind your sport...

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Reading, playing video games, listening to music, and cracking jokes with friends.

Name 3 Fun Facts about yourself that people may not know.

I love cottage cheese. I want to someday compete in an Ironman competition. One time I pretended my leg was broken just so my parents would take me to the hospital.

Facebook or Twitter?

Facebook

Ps3 or Xbox or neither?

PS3!!

What is your favorite part about college?

Independence and self-accountability.

What is your favorite quote?

Kind of cliché for an athlete, but it’s “Big time players make big time plays in big time games.” No idea where it comes from.

Who is the most influential person you’ve met? Why?

Probably Archie Griffin, just because of the way he held himself and the way he spoke.

What do you value the most?

Friends and family. Laughter is probably second.

What is your major? Why did you choose it?

Finance, because I love money.

Outside of your sport, what are your visions/goals in life?

I would love to be a sports agent; it’s something I’ve been planning since I was a little kid.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I really don’t know. Hopefully happy, healthy, and with a job.

Final thoughts...

How do you feel about being the Dorm Rumor?

I’m very honored

What are your thoughts about Mylan Murphy?

I’ve known Mylan for a long time, I think he’s a good guy with a lot of drive and ambition. I also love starting my day with the quotes (Strive4 Daily Statement) he sends, I find a lot of them very helpful.

What advice do you have to anyone reading your story?

You are your best motivator, coach, and critic. In order to succeed in anything you do, you have to make a decision to do it and don’t stop until you reach your goals.

What will you continue to Strive4?

To do everything I can with the abilities God has given me and not take any days for granted.

Seeing this "kid" grow from chasing his BIG brother to the man he has made himself into today, has truly been an honor to watch.

What he has accomplished in the classroom and on the playing fields, speak for itself.

Regardless of the brains Nick has (a lot btw) and the athletic talent (a lot also), the humilty and leadership he brings in everything he does makes him a role model every individual should want to be like. He is self motivated to be the best at whatever he does....and he will make it in life at whatever he takes on.
