On your sport…
How long have you played? What inspired you to play?
I have played softball for about 13 years. I can remember playing coach- pitch for Stow Youth Baseball. I honestly have to admit I never wanted to play softball when I was 8, I told my mom one year that I didn’t want her to sign me up. I wanted to honestly be a cheerleader. If you know me personally, I think you could understand why. I am such an outgoing person and a very cheerful person. One day, I went to watch my younger sister, Becky’s, game and while I was cheering her on. I notice as she went up to bat she just froze at the plate. My mom and dad took us behind the bushes and we switched clothes so I could take her place in the game. Ever since that day I have played softball and don’t picture myself doing anything else.
Where is your favorite place to play (compete)?
I have to say my favorite place to compete would have to be Florida Gulf Coast.
What is your favorite number? Why?
My favorite number is 16. I don’t have a specific reason but 16 has been with me since my freshmen year of high school.
Who is the best player you’ve played WITH and AGAINST?
The best player I have played with is my sister Jenny. It has been such a blessing that God planned for my sister and I to be on the same team. She is not only a GREAT player but also a great mentor. I also consider her to be my inspiration for playing.
The best player I have played against was Kim Reeder from Ohio State.
Do you have a pre-game ritual? If so, what is it?
Yes, I always listen to music to get me pumped.
If you didn’t play your sport, what sport would you play?
Volleyball
What is the worst experienced you’ve had? What did you learn from it?
I was pitching against Nordonia my junior year in high school, and this game determined WRC Champs for 2007. We went into extra innings until Nordonia ended up winning 8-7. It was the worst feeling knowing that I gave it my all just to lose. I learned that showing heart isn’t all about winning its knowing you gave it your all.
Have you ever had an injury while performing your sport?
Just this summer during a game in Michigan, I got a myositis ossificans, (quad contusion) that affected my fall ball season this year. The worst part was my college coaches were watching that very game. It was tough to rehab it. But it never got me down. I worked hard every day, I was very fortunate that I did not have to get surgery.
What do you consider as your greatest accomplishment?
I believe my greatest accomplishment is receiving and maintain my softball scholarship at Eastern.
What is your most memorable moment? Why?
Beating Louisville, the #14 ranked team in the nation, while we we’re playing in Florida. I was in relieve for pitching and went in to throw off the batting order. I got my first win against them and also threw off one of their best hitters.
How has your sport helped you become who you are today?
It is has allowed me to offer advice for children. By doing this I am able to help others who share the same passion and desire for a sport that has given me many qualities that we will use for the rest of our lives
How has your family reacted to all of your sporting success?
My family has been with me through everything and if my mom never signed me up and my sister never wanted to switch behind the bushes, I don’t know where I would be today. I love them all very much.
