On your sport
How long have you played? What inspired you to play?
I’ve been running competitively for 9 years now and plan to keep running as long as I can. When I was in seventh grade I wanted to go out and play football. I wanted to be that kid that got all the girls and played under the lights on Friday nights. My dad convinced me to try cross country instead. I did very well throughout the season so I just kept running.
Where is your favorite place to play (compete)?
I love running anywhere in Peninsula (Ohio) or Boulder (Colorado). I started my running career in Peninsula and every run is just a reminder of where I’ve come from. It also inspires me to know that it doesn’t matter where you’ve come from, you can do almost anything no matter your background. Colorado is just beautiful with the mountains and magnificent trails.
What is your favorite number? Why?
Three. When I was in 8th grade, I ran in the AAU National Championships. I ran well and placed 12th in the race but out of kids that were my age I was third. I don’t know why but I’ve loved it ever since.
Who is the best player you’ve raced WITH and AGAINST?
I’ve raced against a lot of runners, sub 4 minute milers, national champions, and Olympic trials qualifiers. To name one would do injustice to the others.
Do you have a pre-game ritual? If so, what is it?
Kind of. I like to relax the night before with friends and just enjoy myself. The more pressure I put on myself to do something the worse I do. If I relax and enjoy myself I tend to do a lot better.
What is the worst experienced you’ve had? What did you learn from it?
My high school team made it my senior year to Nike Cross Nationals. It was the biggest race of my life at the time and I wanted to run well for everyone. I ended up getting food poison the night before the race. I had to be hospitalized for four hours while they got me better. I ended up losing 15 pounds in 8 hours before the race. I ran anyways but I placed in the hundreds instead of in the teens where I should have been. That race taught me that sometimes you can’t control everything; sometimes you just have to roll with the punches and strive for the best.
Have you ever had an injury while performing your sport?
No. Fortunately I’ve never had a season ending injury.
What do you consider as your greatest accomplishment?
Without a doubt I love to run fast and win races but at the end of the day my biggest accomplishment is seeing that I can inspire someone to make a positive change in their life. That trumps any gold medal I could ever win.
What is your most memorable moment? Why?
My most memorable moment would have to be when I saw my high school win its fourth straight state cross country title. It showed me that the program I was a part of helped inspire others to achieve greatness.
How has your sport helped you become who you are today?
I like to think I’m who I am today because of running. It’s taught me sacrifice, hard work, determination, desire, and teamwork.
Behind your sport
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?I love to learn new things. I like to write and enjoy reading and playing soccer. Also any time I can spend with friends or family is also high on my list.

Facebook.
What is your favorite part about college?
Last semester I only had classes on monday and wednesday and for a total of 3 hours each day. That’s what I love about college.
What is your favorite quote?
“One can indeed come out of prison to reign, event though born poor in the kingdom” -Ecclesiastes 4.14
Who is the most influential person you’ve met? Why?
The most influential person I’ve ever met would have to be my mother or father. Both instilled in me great values that made me who I am today.
What do you value the most?
True character. Good or bad, true character is open and there for everyone to appreciate or hate. No matter what though that’s who that person is.
What is your major? Why did you choose it?
Education. I have a love for knowledge and want to try and instill that into someone else. Also I like the summer vacations.
Outside of your sport, what are your visions/goals in life?
My life goal since I can remember isn’t to be rich or famous; I just want to enjoy this life that I have with as many people as I can.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I’d like to be married with a son or daughter and coaching and teaching back at Woodridge High School.
