How long have you swam? What inspired you to start swimming?
I've swam for 11 years. I saw my neighbors’ swimming sign, and just had to have one for myself, so my parents signed me up.
Where is your favorite place to compete?
UTexas swim center, it’s close to home and people that I know and grew up with can come watch me.
What is your favorite number? Why?
1 because in the words of the famous Ricky Bobby, "If you're not first, YOUR LAST!!"
Who are the best swimmers you’ve swam WITH and AGAINST?
Dave Walters, Ricky Berens, and Garret Weber-Gale.
Do you have a pre-race ritual? If so, what is it?
I always take a hot something; like a hot shower, or hot tub, or all of the above plus whatever else is available.
What made you choose The University of Texas?
A chance to win four years in a row and to be coached by a living legend.
If you didn’t swim, what sport would you play?
Basketball for sure.
What is the worst experienced you’ve had? What did you learn from it?
I got really sick during my freshman year and lost 30 lbs and ended up not making our NCAA championships travel team. It taught me that being on top of the medicine your doctor gives you is no joke.
Have you ever had an injury while performing your sport?
Swimmers ear, I know that sounds like some sissy stuff, but a friend of mine was hospitalized from pneumonia for 2 months from inhaling water, true story.
What do you consider as your greatest accomplishment?
So far, placing 13th in the 100 and 200 meter freestyle events and summer nationals.
What is your most memorable moment? Why?
Not making the NCAA team my freshman year. It was painful to not be a part of something so great (winning a national championship), and having to watch them win from home. It was still tight to see us win and don't get me wrong I'm glad we won, but it's like not being in the game for the 4th quarter.
How has swimming helped you become who you are today?
Made me realize that if I'm ready and willing to sacrifice for something, I can do whatever I put my mind to.
How has your family reacted to all of your sporting success?
They're just really proud. They want me to meet people they work with lol, and everybody is cheesing all the time.
Behind your sport…
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Chillin with my boys, meeting new people (especially the pretty UT girls), playing basketball and video games.
Do you have a pet peeve? If so, what is it?
Yes, I would say it’s "don't provide false hope". I hate it when people say they're going to do something and don't put forth the effort to do it or just blow it off.
Facebook or Twitter?
Both:
What is your favorite movie? TV Show?
I'll watch any movie. Law and Order for sure, yep I'm one of those people. tosh.o is pretty dope too.
Ps3, Xbox or neither?
Xbox for sure, they call me "DAXBOX360"
What is your favorite part about college?
Better quality of training, some classes are way more interesting than what you take in HS, and the pretty girls for sure.
What is the first thing you notice about people?
If people have a follower type personality or a leader type personality.
Do you have a saying or motto that you live by? Favorite quote?
"Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard" got it from a news paper article about when Kevin Durant came to play basketball here at UT.
Who is the most influential person you’ve met? Why?
I would say everyone I've ever met. I try to learn from people and their successes and mistakes, and mold those observations into my own person.
What do you value the most?
Friends, family, and my coaches.
What is your major?
I'm undeclared right now, I have no idea what I want to be right now.
Is there anything that you regret or would take back in your life?
Nope, God's got big plans for me I know it, if something happens in my life I know its for the greater good.
Outside of your sport, what are your visions/goals in life?
Be able to impact generations of people long after I'm gone..... and be rich.
