On your sport…
How long have you played? What inspired you to play?
Since 5 years old

Where is your favorite place to play?
Wide World Sports Complex in Orlando

What is your favorite number? Why?
00 because I have been that for most of my soccer career

Who is the best player you’ve played WITH and AGAINST?
Best player I’ve played with is Beverly Gobel and against I don’t have a specific player but I would say the UNC Woman’s Soccer team is one of the best teams I have played against they have so many great individuals on that team that makes the whole team come together.

Do you have a pre-game ritual? If so, what is it?
I listen to Lose Yourself by Eminem and visualize what I am going to do in the game.

If you didn’t play your sport, what sport would you play?
Basketball

Who is the most influential person you’ve met? Why?
Jimmy Elder because when I first started off playing soccer no one believed in me like he did and because of his strong belief he helped me become the person I am today.

What is the first thing you notice about people?
Eyebrows and smile

What is the worst experienced you’ve had? What did you learn from it?
The worst experience I have had is when I tore my ACL at the begging of my freshman year and the end of my sophomore year of high school. I learned that no matter what happens to you there is always a way to come back from it, all you need is faith, hard work, and belief.

How has your sport helped you become who you are today?
Soccer has developed me into the person I am today. It has taught me so many things like accountability, responsibility, and has allowed me to meet new people that have influenced my life greatly.

How has your family reacted to all of your sporting success?
My family loves that I’m living my dream and supports anything and everything that I accomplish.

Is there anything that you regret or would take back in your life?
I don’t regret anything I do in my life because everything happens for a reason.

Outside of your sport, what are your visions/goals in life?
To make a difference in someone’s life and be to at a point where money is no problem.

Name a few Fun Facts about yourself that people may not know.
I have 90 DVDs. My Favorite color is purple.

Do you have a pet peeve? If so, what is it?
People asking questions they already know the answer to or when someone says something and I don’t hear them then I ask what did they say and they say NOTHING!

Facebook or Twitter?
Facebook

What is your favorite movie? TV Show?
Love and Basketball and true blood!

Ps3 or Xbox?
Xbox

How do you feel about being the Dorm Rumor?
I feel that it is a great way to learn about the other athletes in the world.

Who knows a lot about soccer?? Yea, me either… One thing that most of you may know about soccer is that it is the world’s most loved sport! It’s extremely popular and common all throughout our world and is highly respected. I’m going to give you a little quiz… Tell me how many of the terms listed below you recognize:
Advantage Rule -Assist-Attacker-Banana Kick-Bicycle Kick-Break-Breakaway-Carrying the Ball-Center Line-Charge-Clear-Defender-Draw-Dribbling-End Line-Flick Header-Foot Trap-Foul-Hacking-Indirect Free Kick-Marking-Near Post-Obstruction-Offside-Offside Position-Outlet Pass-Overlap-Penalty Shot-Save-Shielding-Small-sided Game-Tackling-Touch Line-Volley.

All of the bolded terms are key parts of Victoria Alonzo’s job as starting goalie for the University of Miami women’s soccer team. Coming off of a outstanding season last year, Victoria beat the school’s shut-out record; which she calls one of her most memorable moments… “Shutting UNC (University of North Carolina) out 1-0 last year was my most memorable moment because UNC is a team that everyone is out to beat and it doesn’t happen easy. They have won the majority of the NCAA titles since soccer started so beating them is definitely a dream come true; not many teams can say they have beaten the national champs!” Victoria has been playing soccer since she was 5 years old, so she has definitely seen a lot of ups, as well as a lot of downs (including tearing both ACL’s in both knees). However, she has been able to maintain a particular mindset that has allowed her to set herself apart from everyone else; her heart and drive and love for the game of soccer!

As you can see, Victoria Alonzo is on her grind when it comes to the soccer field! She’s definitely one of the top, up and coming goalies in women’s collegiate soccer so I suggest you be on the lookout for her! Enough with soccer… I asked the Dallas, TX native why she picked The U out of all the other schools in the country; she said “The weather and family environment” which is extremely important to her due to her being clearly across the country from home sweet home. Vikki also stated that she values the time she spends with her family and friends the most out of anything because she is so far away from home and rarely gets to go back to see them. But no worries, Vikki has truly found a home away from home, even saying that her favorite part about college is “making new memories with her teammates”, so I’m sure, despite her being homesick, she is having the time of her life in Miami!

Victoria Alonzo’s favorite personal quote sums up her whole life and journey that she’s gone through with soccer… “With faith things are possible, without, things are impossible.” It’s truly that simple! If you believe, ANYTHING can happen! But if you don’t believe, it can’t be done! Don’t forget that people!
